Serena Williams’s return at Wimbledon was one of the stories of the season. The 44-year-old American played singles for the first time since the 2022 US Open. Handed a wild card, Williams injured her knee and lost in the first round to Maya Joint, but her comeback drew huge interest and set a US TV viewing record for day two of the tournament. In the final Linda Nosková beat her compatriot Karolína Muchová 6-2, 5-7, 6-3 for her first Grand Slam title. At 21, she became the youngest Wimbledon champion in 15 years and the third Czech winner in four years. There was no such luck for Maja Chwalińska. A wild card from the organisers, she led 6-2, 5-2 before an ankle injury turned the match and she went out in the first round. Iga Świątek lost in the third round to Alexandra Eala, 7-6(9), 6-2, hitting 44 unforced errors.
