What to know before you order
How does a tennis canvas differ from a fine art print?
Canvases are printed on Solution Canvas, a matt 365 gsm canvas, protected with a matt Hahnemühle varnish and stretched over a wooden stretcher with a 20 × 35 mm profile, ready to hang without framing. A fine art print is on archival Hahnemühle Photo Rag 308 gsm paper and needs framing, ideally behind glass or with a mount. The canvas gives physical depth and the texture of woven canvas; the print gives a more gallery-like restraint. The same artwork is published as fifty prints and, separately, as fifty canvases. Choose the canvas if you want one large piece ready straight out of the box, and the print if you are building a wall of several works in matching frames.
Does a canvas need framing?
No. Every canvas arrives stretched over a wooden stretcher frame, ready to hang. The sides are printed too: the edge of the image is mirrored around the stretcher, so the piece reads well from any angle and nothing of the composition is cropped. You can hang it the moment you unpack it.
Which canvas size should I choose?
It depends on the wall and on how much weight you want the piece to carry in the room.
- A small wall, or part of a composition of several works: 30 × 40 cm (12 × 16 in) or 40 × 50 cm (16 × 20 in).
- The main wall of a bedroom, office or hallway: 50 × 70 cm (20 × 28 in).
- A living room, as the dominant point: 70 × 100 cm (28 × 40 in).
- A large open space, as an architectural accent: 100 × 140 cm (40 × 55 in).
A practical rule: the longer side should be about two thirds to three quarters of the width of the furniture below it. The 50 × 70 and 70 × 100 cm sizes are the most common choice for a living room.
How much does a tennis canvas cost?
Canvas prices start at €59 for the smaller formats and reach €199 for the largest, 100 × 140 cm (40 × 55 in). The exact price for each size is shown on the product page. The price covers the archival pigment print on Solution Canvas 365 gsm, hand-stretching over a wooden stretcher frame, numbering and a certificate of authenticity.
How long do the colours last on a canvas?
Canvases are printed with Epson UltraChrome HDX pigment inks, which reach a colour print life of up to 200 years in independent Wilhelm Imaging Research testing; the real life of a print depends on the material and on how you display it, so keep it out of direct sunlight and away from damp. It is the same archival standard museums use for reproducing works of art. The surface is matt rather than glossy, so it does not throw glare back at you. You can look at the piece from any angle.
Are the works signed and numbered?
Every piece is numbered: 12/50, for example, means the twelfth print in an edition of fifty. Not every piece is signed. Where there is one, the product page says so, and says whether the signature is added by hand after printing or is part of the image itself. Fifty is the total for each artwork, across every size. Prints and canvases are separate editions. When an edition is gone, we do not reprint it. Every canvas comes with a certificate of authenticity carrying the date of issue, the title, the artist’s name, the printing technique, the dimensions and the catalogue number.
How is Serve and Volley Art different from IKEA, Etsy or Society6?
Serve and Volley Art is a fine art gallery with a curated selection, not a marketplace stocked with generic imagery. No stock photography, no AI-generated images, no templates. It is written into our contracts with the artists. Every piece is made with a named artist and printed at a fine art studio in Poland on archival materials, and issued in a numbered limited edition with a certificate. Chain retailers produce prints without limit on cheaper materials; on an open marketplace the file usually goes to print exactly as it was uploaded.
How is a canvas shipped, and what if it arrives damaged?
Canvases are packed in rigid cartons with a foam insert and corner guards for the stretcher. Orders leave us within 1–3 working days and reach most EU addresses 2–5 days later, with tracking. If a piece is damaged in transit, we send a replacement at our cost: email us with photographs within 14 days of delivery, ideally as soon as you unpack it, so that we can make the insurance claim. You choose: a replacement or a full refund.
Can I return a canvas?
Yes. Under EU consumer law you have 14 days from delivery to change your mind, no reason needed. The canvas has to come back unused and in the carton it arrived in, and return postage is paid by the customer. We refund within 14 days of the parcel reaching us. The one exception is a canvas made to order in a non-standard size.
