ABOUT THE ARTWORK

A reproduction of the painting “Can’t Sleep, Watching Tennis”

For just about any tennis fan, this painting could be a self-portrait. A big match at the US Open or the Australian Open often turns into a late-night marathon: a dimly lit room, the bright rectangle of the screen, a coffee going cold nearby. It is a ritual every fan of the sport knows, the simple pull to be part of the event wherever in the world it is being played. Katarzyna Kwater-Więcek’s painting is a study of exactly that experience: a man sitting in front of a screen on which a tennis match is playing out. The colours of the court deep in the composition point directly to clay, the surface most strongly associated with Roland Garros.
The figure stays still, separated from the dynamic action by the thin border of the screen. The whole composition is a symbol of being hypnotised by the image, and of passive participation in a reality mediated by the screen.
The original painting was digitised at high resolution to preserve a faithful rendering of its texture and colours. The archival pigment print is produced on matt, cotton Galerie Rag 270gsm fine art paper, which guarantees colour that lasts for many years.

Printing technique

How we print our fine art posters

Every Serve and Volley Art tennis poster begins with an artist’s original work, whether a hand-painted picture or a digital illustration. We digitise the artwork with scanners at over 1200 DPI and verify colour fidelity through colour proofing. We print exclusively using the pigment (giclée) technique, the same one used by museums and galleries around the world. Pigment inks resist UV, moisture and the passage of time, and testing confirms colour permanence exceeding 75 years in home conditions. We produce every order individually. Your Fine Art Print is printed specially for you, quality-checked and packed in a protective cardboard tube. From order to dispatch takes 2 to 3 working days. Choose a frame locally, as the poster dimensions match the most popular ready-made frame sizes.

    • Galerie Rag paper 270 g/m² (100% cotton): Refined, premium, matt, acid-free and free of optical brighteners. Its smooth, velvety surface keeps whites natural and gives colours remarkable depth. The paper does not yellow or grow brittle over time.
    • Giclée pigment printing: We use an advanced technique with 12 pigment inks. Unlike ordinary printing, the pigments sink deep into the cotton fibres, giving perfect tonal transitions and detail that an ordinary poster cannot reproduce.
    • Glare-free matt depth: Thanks to the fully matt paper base, the print does not reflect light. You can enjoy the artwork comfortably even in bright, sunlit rooms, whatever angle you view the wall from.
    • Resistant to UV and fading, 75+ years
    • Longevity (75+ years): Our prints undergo rigorous ageing tests. The pigments’ resistance to UV light ensures the colours stay just as intense for decades, making your poster a true collector’s piece.
    • Protection and format: We ship posters in thick, reinforced tubes, wrapped in protective tissue. The formats are optimised for standard frames (from professional framers to popular framing systems), which keeps framing simple and intuitive.

Meet the artist

Katarzyna Kwater-Więcek

A graduate of the Fine Arts Secondary School in Kraków and of graphic arts at the Pedagogical University of Kraków. By day she designs digital products, and that clearly shapes her painting. In her work she explores the relationship between people, technology and the image, which is why she often portrays a male figure staring at a screen as a symbol of the present day. She is drawn to that suspended state between focus and the hypnotic trance brought on by the content streaming from a display. .

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes a fine art print different from a regular poster?

A fine art print is a top quality reproduction made using pigment printing on archival photographic paper. At SVA we use Galerie Rag 270gsm cotton paper. It is the same technique museums and galleries use to reproduce works of art, and its colour fastness exceeds 75 years. An ordinary poster is offset or digital print on thin, glossy wood pulp paper. It is cheaper, but it fades quickly and does not hold the subtle tonal transitions.

What is Galerie Rag 270gsm paper?

Galerie Rag is a premium photographic paper made from 100% cotton, with a weight of 270gsm. It has a matt, smooth surface with no glare, ideal for art reproduction. Unlike wood pulp papers, cotton paper does not yellow over time and stays pH neutral, which guarantees the archival longevity of the print. It is the standard paper used by galleries and collectors worldwide.

Does the fine art print come with a frame?

No, our fine art prints are sold unframed. We ship them in a sturdy cardboard tube that keeps them safe in transit. You can easily find a matching frame at a local framing shop, an art supply store, or online. Our print sizes match the most common ready-made frame dimensions (30 × 40, 40 × 50, 50 × 70, 70 × 100 and 100 × 140 cm).

How is the print packaged for shipping?

We ship the print in a sturdy cardboard tube with an extra layer of protective paper that shields it from moisture and creasing. The tube is sealed, and inside you will find the edition certificate. Production time: 1-2 business days. Delivery time: 1-2 business days. Shipping is free on orders over €100.

How should I choose a frame for Katarzyna Kwater-Więcek's "Can't Sleep, Watching Tennis" poster?

“Can’t Sleep, Watching Tennis” has a calm, painterly palette of terracotta, sage green and cream, so it looks its best in a simple frame that lets those muted tones breathe. A slim matt black frame with a white mount gives it a clean, contemporary gallery look and suits the square format nicely, while a warm light wood such as oak picks up the earthy clay tones of the court for a softer, cosier feel. Either way, keep the frame slim and the mount generous, as heavy or ornate mouldings would fight the quiet mood of the piece. And because the print comes in square sizes that match standard frame dimensions, you can pick a ready-made frame with no custom work.

How does a fine art poster differ from a canvas print of the same artwork?

A fine art poster is an archival pigment print on Galerie Rag photographic paper (270 g/m²); it requires framing and is suitable for classic, collector-style display. A canvas print is a pigment print on Hahnemühle cotton canvas (365 g/m²) stretched over a wooden stretcher, ready to hang, with the texture of the fabric clearly visible.

How many prints are in the limited edition of "Can't Sleep, Watching Tennis"?

The fine art print edition of Katarzyna Kwater-Wiecek’s “Can’t Sleep, Watching Tennis” comes in a limited run of 50 numbered copies.
