ABOUT THE ARTWORK

A reproduction of the painting “Can’t Sleep, Watching Tennis”

A reproduction of the painting “Can’t Sleep, Watching Tennis” Katarzyna Kwater-Więcek’s painting is a portrait of a ritual every tennis fan knows: a man sitting in front of a screen where a tennis match is playing out. Because who hasn’t stayed up through the night to watch the matches at the Australian Open or the US Open?
The figure stays still, separated from the dynamic action by the thin border of the screen. The whole composition is a symbol of being hypnotised by the image, and of passive participation in a reality mediated by the screen.
In the Hahnemühle 365gsm cotton canvas version, the work keeps the brushwork and the depth of colour of the oil original, which brings it closer to the character of the original piece. Hand stretched over a wooden stretcher frame, finished with an extra layer of varnish and in a square format that suits modern interiors, it makes a gift that needs no additional framing. The varnish also shields it from dust, moisture and UV, and ensures long-lasting durability

Printing technique

How are our canvas prints made?

What sets Serve and Volley Art canvases apart? The design process often begins with studying archival tennis matches. Before a canvas reaches your wall, we shape its concept hand in hand with the artist: we sketch, we watch tennis, and we trade ideas. The result is that every tennis artwork is refined to the last detail, and you receive an original work by the artist, whether it began as a hand painted piece or a digital illustration. Our art is the product of thousands of beautiful rallies and shots.
We fulfill every order individually. Your canvas is quality checked and packed in secure cardboard packaging. From order to dispatch takes two to three business days.

  • Hand stretching over the frame: every sheet of Hahnemühle cotton canvas (365 g/m²) is hand stretched over a solid wooden stretcher frame made from selected pine. Working by hand gives us full control over a perfectly even tension.
  • Printed edges (mirror effect): we continue the illustration onto the side edges of the canvas. This gives the piece depth and presence, so it looks great from every angle, with no need for an additional frame.
  • Protective varnish: we seal the canvas surface with a dedicated varnish that shields the colors from UV light, dust, and moisture. It guarantees the colors keep their intensity for over 75 years.
  • Ready to display: the canvas arrives ready to hang. The sturdy frame construction keeps the frame from warping, so you can enjoy the art the moment you lift it out of its secure, reinforced packaging.

Meet the artist

Katarzyna Kwater-Więcek

A graduate of the Fine Arts Secondary School in Kraków and of graphic arts at the Pedagogical University of Kraków. By day she designs digital products, and that clearly shapes her painting. In her work she explores the relationship between people, technology and the image, which is why she often portrays a male figure staring at a screen as a symbol of the present day. She is drawn to that suspended state between focus and the hypnotic trance brought on by the content streaming from a display. .

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the canvas print differ from the fine art print?

The canvas print is a pigment print on Hahnemühle cotton canvas (365gsm) stretched on a wooden stretcher frame. It is ready to hang, with a visible fabric texture and the feel of a true gallery piece. The fine art print is an archival giclée pigment print on 270gsm photographic paper that needs framing, with a more collectable print aesthetic. Both are released by SVA in separate, limited editions.

Which canvas size should I choose?

The right size depends on where the canvas will hang and how prominent you want it to be in the space. For a small wall, or as part of a gallery wall of several pieces, we recommend 30 × 40 cm or 40 × 50 cm. For a main wall in a bedroom, office or hallway, 50 × 70 cm. For a living room, as a dominant focal point, 70 × 100 cm. For a large, open space, as an architectural accent, 100 × 140 cm. The 50 × 70 cm and 70 × 100 cm canvases are the most popular choice for a living room.

How much does a tennis canvas print cost?

SVA tennis canvas prints range from 59 € (30 × 40 cm) to 199 € (100 × 140 cm). The price includes a pigment print on Hahnemühle 365gsm cotton canvas and a numbered edition certificate.

How do I hang a canvas print?

Our canvas prints are stretched on wooden stretcher frames, which makes them quick to hang in several ways. Choose the method that best suits your wall:

Traditional methods (these need drilling or nails):

  • Hooks and sawtooth hangers: metal fittings screwed to the frame that hook over a nail or screw.
  • Directly on the frame: you can hang the canvas by resting the top edge of the stretcher frame straight onto a nail.
  • Wall plugs: needed for concrete walls and heavier canvases to keep everything fully secure.

No-drill methods (non-invasive):

  • Hook-and-loop strips and mounting tape: let you hang the canvas without damaging the wall (for example Command strips). They hold up to a few kilograms.
  • Self-adhesive hooks: ideal for plaster and wallpaper (for example the tesa brand). They often have a height adjustment, which makes it easy to level the piece.
How thick is the stretcher frame, and are the sides of the canvas visible?

SVA stretcher frames are made of pine, 2 cm thick, the gallery standard. Strips of the composition are visible on the sides, which reinforces the piece’s character as a finished art object that needs no frame. The edges are finished in a colour that matches the dominant tones of the work. For most of our customers this is exactly the look they want, and a welcome alternative to a classic frame.

How do I clean a canvas print?

We finish SVA canvases with a delicate layer of varnish that protects against dust, moisture and UV. To clean it, use a dry, soft microfibre cloth and gentle strokes. Avoid wet wipes, chemical cleaners, alcohol and long hours of direct sunlight each day. The varnish also strengthens colour longevity to over 75 years.

Would Katarzyna Kwater-Wiecek's "Can't Sleep, Watching Tennis" canvas print make a good gift?

Absolutely. A canvas print is an especially easy gift to give because it arrives ready to hang, with no frame to buy. “Can’t Sleep, Watching Tennis” is a great choice for any true fan: its scene of someone glued to a late-night match is something every tennis lover recognises, which makes it both personal and a little tongue-in-cheek. The muted, earthy palette and square format suit modern interiors, and the limited edition of 50 gives it real collectable value.

What if the canvas arrives damaged?

We pack canvases in rigid boxes with a protective foam insert and corner guards that protect the stretcher frame. Shipping is insured. If the canvas is damaged in transit, we will send a replacement at our expense. Just report the problem by email, with photos of the damage, within 14 days of delivery. You return the damaged canvas at our expense. Full refund or replacement guaranteed.
