Carlos Alcaraz beat Novak Djokovic 2-6, 6-2, 6-3, 7-5 in the Australian Open final for his first title in Melbourne. At 22 years and eight months, the Spaniard became the youngest man to complete the Career Grand Slam – and only the ninth to do it at all – taking the record from Don Budge, who had held it since 1938. It was his seventh Grand Slam title. Alcaraz also ended an extraordinary run by Djokovic, who had been a perfect 10-0 in Australian Open finals.

Jannik Sinner beat Daniil Medvedev 7-6(6), 7-6(4) in the final without dropping a set all tournament, and in the second-set tie-break he recovered from 0-4 down by winning seven straight points. The Italian became the third man in history, and the youngest of them, to hold every major hard-court title: all six hard-court Masters 1000 events, the ATP Finals, the Australian Open and the US Open. He was also the first player to win back-to-back Masters 1000 titles without dropping a set, having also gone unbeaten in sets in Paris in 2025, and the first Italian to reach 100 match wins at Masters 1000 level.

The two went into the final level on the headline numbers: 26 titles each and 66 weeks each at No. 1. The win returned Sinner to No. 1 for the first time since November 2025 and was his fourth Masters title in a row. He became only the second man, after Novak Djokovic in 2015, to win the season’s first three Masters 1000 events. It came at the fourth time of asking in a major final, putting him alongside Andre Agassi, Goran Ivanišević and Dominic Thiem, who also needed four. He is the first German man with a Grand Slam title since Boris Becker in 1996, and the first major champion other than Sinner or Alcaraz since 2023. Cobolli, 24, was the first Italian finalist at Roland Garros in 50 years; 1976 champion Adriano Panatta congratulated him afterwards.

Defending champion Jannik Sinner beat Alexander Zverev 6-7(7), 7-6(2), 6-3, 6-4 for the fifth Grand Slam title of his career. It was his 10th win in a row over Zverev, who had not broken the Sinner serve in seven meetings. It was the Italian’s first major of 2026, after a semi-final loss to Djokovic in Melbourne and a retirement at Roland Garros. It was also his 100th Grand Slam match win, taking his record to 100-22. He is only the 10th man in the Open era to defend the Wimbledon title, after Rod Laver, John Newcombe, Björn Borg, John McEnroe, Boris Becker, Pete Sampras, Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and, most recently, Carlos Alcaraz in 2023 and 2024. Sampras holds the record, with five successful defences.

Alexander Zverev was crowned champion of the 2026 US Open after defeating home favourite Ben Shelton 6–3, 7–6(2), 5–7, 6–2 in the final. This is the German’s second Grand Slam triumph in two months, following his victory at Wimbledon. Zverev has emulated the success of his compatriot Boris Becker, who won the US Open in 1989. Americans must therefore continue to wait for a home victory – the last winner of the men’s singles title was Andy Roddick in 2003. Translated with DeepL.com (free version)

When was Roland Garros 2026?

Roland Garros 2026 (the French Open) ran from 24 May to 7 June 2026 on the clay courts of Stade Roland-Garros in Paris. It is the only Grand Slam played on clay, and matches on the Paris clay can last more than five hours. The Philippe-Chatrier centre court has a retractable roof, so play can continue in the rain. Defending champion (2025): Carlos Alcaraz.

When was Wimbledon 2026?

Wimbledon 2026 ran from 29 June to 12 July 2026 at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London. This is the 139th edition of the oldest tennis tournament in the world and the only Grand Slam played on grass. It is famous for its traditions: the all-white dress code, strawberries and cream, and the Royal Box. Play finishes by 11 p.m. London time – the only Grand Slam with a night-time curfew. Defending champion (2025): Jannik Sinner.

When is the 2026 US Open?

The US Open 2026 runs from 30 August to 13 September 2026 on the hard courts of the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York (Flushing Meadows). It is the last Grand Slam of the season and the best attended – more than 800,000 spectators every year. Arthur Ashe Stadium is the largest tennis arena in the world, seating over 23,000. The tournament is known for its loud New York crowds and its night sessions. Defending champion (2025): Carlos Alcaraz.

Which ATP Masters 1000 events are played in 2026?

The 2026 ATP season has nine Masters 1000 tournaments, in calendar order: Indian Wells (4–15 March), Miami (18–29 March), Monte Carlo (5–12 April), Madrid (22 April – 3 May), Rome (6–17 May), the Canadian Open (2–13 August), Cincinnati (13–23 August), Shanghai (7–18 October) and Paris-Bercy (October/November). The key change is that seven of the nine now run in the extended 12-day format, with a 96-player draw instead of 56; only Monte Carlo and Paris keep the shorter format. A title is worth 1000 ranking points.

How many ranking points does a Grand Slam title earn?

Winning a Grand Slam is worth 2000 ATP ranking points. A Masters 1000 title carries 1000 points, an ATP 500 title 500 points and an ATP 250 title 250 points.

What surface is Roland Garros played on?

Roland Garros (the French Open) is played on clay. It is the only Grand Slam played on that surface.

When and where are the 2026 ATP Finals?

The Nitto ATP Finals 2026 run from 15 to 22 November 2026 in Turin, Italy, at the Inalpi Arena (formerly the Pala Alpitour). Only the eight best singles players and the eight best doubles teams of the season qualify, which is why the event is treated as an unofficial world championship. The format is a group stage followed by semi-finals and the final, on indoor hard courts. An unbeaten champion can collect up to 1500 ranking points. Defending champion: Jannik Sinner. Turin is the last edition of the ATP Finals in Italy – from 2027 the event is expected to move to Japan.

What is the ATP Tour?

The ATP Tour (Association of Tennis Professionals) is the main circuit of professional men’s tennis. A season is made up of the Grand Slams, the Masters 1000, ATP 500 and ATP 250 events and the season-ending ATP Finals. In 2026 there are more than 60 tournaments worldwide.

How many tournaments are there on the 2026 ATP calendar?

The 2026 ATP season covers 59 tournaments in 29 countries, not counting the four Grand Slams. The calendar holds nine ATP Masters 1000 events (seven of them in the extended 12-day format), 16 ATP 500 events, 29 ATP 250 events, the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin (15–22 November) and the Next Gen ATP Finals in Jeddah. The season opens with the United Cup (2–11 January) and closes with the Davis Cup after the ATP Finals. It runs from early January to late November – more than ten months of tennis.

Who is the ATP world No. 1 in 2026?

Jannik Sinner leads the ATP rankings with 11,000 points, ahead of Alexander Zverev (9,630) and Carlos Alcaraz (5,060). Behind them come Ben Shelton (4,680), Félix Auger-Aliassime (3,890) and Daniil Medvedev (3,860). The ATP ranking is based on points won over the last 52 weeks, counting each player’s 18 best results.

What’s new on the 2026 ATP calendar?

The main changes: Marseille (ATP 250) moved from February to October, Stockholm (ATP 250) moved from October to November, Metz (ATP 250) dropped off the calendar, and Estoril (ATP 250) returned in a new slot – July instead of its traditional April. The wider trend is the continuation of the ATP OneVision reforms: a full 50:50 profit share at the Masters 1000 events and extended draw formats.

Which ATP tournaments take place in London?

London hosts two ATP tournaments, both on grass: the HSBC Championships (ATP 500) in June, and Wimbledon at the All England Lawn Tennis Club at the turn of June and July. You will find the dates in the table above.

Which ATP tournaments are mandatory in 2026?

Players in the top 30 must enter the four Grand Slams and eight Masters 1000 events. In 2026 the number of tournaments counting towards the ranking dropped from 19 to 18, giving players more room to recover. The Masters 1000 events are mandatory for the highest-ranked players, with the exception of Monte Carlo, which is treated as informally mandatory. Missing one without a valid medical reason costs ranking points.

What is the Sunshine Double in tennis?

The Sunshine Double is winning both back-to-back Masters 1000 tournaments in March: Indian Wells in California and the Miami Open in Florida. Both are played on hard courts and count among the most important events on the ATP and WTA calendars. Indian Wells is often called the fifth Grand Slam.

How are points awarded at the 2026 ATP Finals?

The ATP Finals use their own scale: 200 ranking points for each group-stage win, 400 for reaching the semi-final and 500 for the final. An unbeaten champion who wins every group match and then the knockout stage collects 1500 points in total, which makes the ATP Finals the highest-scoring event of the season after the Grand Slams.

What is Video Review on the ATP Tour, and where is it used?

Video review lets officials check difficult situations: double bounces, net touches and unsportsmanlike conduct. From the 2026 season it is available on every court at ATP 500 tournaments – an extension of a system that previously ran only at selected venues. It allows calls that used to rest on the umpire’s judgement alone to be verified precisely.

How does the ATP protect players in extreme heat? The WBGT rules explained

The 2026 season brings stricter player-health procedures built around the WBGT index (Wet Bulb Globe Temperature), which measures not only air temperature but also humidity and the sunlight falling on the court. At a reading of 30.1 °C players may ask for a ten-minute cooling break after the second set, during which they can shower, change kit or see a doctor. If the WBGT passes 32.2 °C, the umpire must suspend play on outdoor courts until conditions improve.
